Good News For AFCAT Candidates

Dear Friends,

As you all might be knowing that declaration of merit list is the last stage of your selection. In AFCAT specially for July course huge number of candidates gets merit out ( i am also one among hundred's) . If you get merit out then also do not loose your hope.

Indian Navy called 10 merit out candidates from AFCAT 02/2012. They also mailed me stating that i was in the list but i am not fulfilling eligibility criteria ( they need 6/6 eye sight for navy ) so they didn't considered me.

If you made in to merit list than it's good but if not than wait for reserved merit list. If reserve merit list is also negative than wait for other services may be they will call you. If nothing is happening than apply with more preparation next time.

If you are not having any more attempts than you can go for territorial army or Become the president of India (  Supreme Commander of all the forces.. hahaha ). Life is all about moving forward with rectifying your mistakes.

Succeed in GTO tasks

Friends GTO ( Group Testing Officer's) Tasks also play very important role in your selection. In the conference among all the three officers who had tested you ( IO, Psychologist and GTO) GTO's view is most important because he is the only one who spends 2 days with you , so his perception for you is taken into higher priority.

GTO task comprises indoor and outdoor tasks

Indoor Tasks are-

• Group Discussions.
• Military Planning Exercise.

Outdoor Tasks are -

• Progressive Group Task.
• Half Group Task.
• Snake Race.
• Lecturette.
• Command Task.
• Individual Obstacle.
• Final Group Task.

Group Discussion - I already mentioned in my earlier article how to handle this section.

Military Planning exercise - In Military planning exercise. They will show you a map of any place it can be a jungle , a picnic spot , a village or any place. That map will be a complete map showing you directions and distance. You will get sample maps on various websites than GTO will tell you 4 or 5 problems and you have to solve all those problems with the help of your team. In various books you will get a complete picture of such problems. 

                         GTO actually want to see how efficiently you plan and how you utilize the human resources and other natural resources effectively. How practical your mind is? How you represent and discuss the problem with the group. Whatever be your plan do not try to persuade the group that your plan is best. You have to come up with a group plan.. Find the best solution by discussing with the group.

Always remember GTO tasks is all about how you perform with the group.

Progressive Group Task - In PGT your group have to clear 3 or 4 hurdles which will be designed in a progressive manner in terms of difficulty. These tasks are really very easy. Only do not loose your confidence and think for each and every member of the group. They will provide few helping materials like rope, fhatta, and balli and you have to cross  the hurdles with the help of your helping materials .
                                          Take initiative if possible. Do not ever try to dominate the group. You are the part of the group not the commander of the group. so behave according to that. If you will get stuck anywhere than discuss , listen and contribute with your group members.
                                         Do not break any rule specifically mentioned by the GTO. Always remember which color is for what purpose.

Red - Not for you nor for your helping material.
Blue - For and your helping material.
White - For you only not for your helping material.

( These colors are not specific , they are different in different SSB's Center)

Remember the instructions, give importance to time and keep maintain your calm.

Half Group Task - Similar to PGT but your group will be divided to two half so that you can perform better in small group and GTO will have better assessment of your personality.

Lecturette -   You have to give lecture for 3 minutes on one of the topic . You will choose the topic. Again your knowledge and communication skill will play important role in this area.

Command Task-  Your GTO will call you and ask few questions regarding your place,your job and after that he will ask you to call 2 members from your group and cross the hurdle. Its same and very much easier as compared to PGT. If GTO will order you to clear the hurdles again again by giving you different circumstances than its a positive sign. It means he is checking his decision for you again and again.

Individual Obstacles - Their will be 10 obstacles and you have to clear those obstacles in 3 minutes. Run hard this is the only procedure. If you get stuck in any obstacles than leave it and go for next. GTO is only checking your Fitness.

Final Group Task. - Similar to PGT. GTO only Confirm his decisions for you.

Consider every task very seriously and perform with full josh and energy.

Interview tips for SSB..

Dear Friends as you all might me knowing that interview is always one of the most important step for getting into any job but it plays more vital role if SSB is concerned. Generally interview is taken by very senior official or some times even president of the board itself takes your interview. If that officer is impressed and passed you with good marks than 50% your job is done , rest of the 50% includes your written, GTO tasks and psychological test. If you succeed in getting good marks in your interview than even you don't  have to worry for merit list. In nut shell IO test plays  Very Very important role in your overall selection.

Most of the aspirants ask that what kind of question IO ask and what kind of answer recommended candidates give so that we also go for the same thing and got our selection confirmed. If you follow this strategy than you are digging your own grave.

Always remember that its you and only you in which is IO is interested  . He want to get clear picture of your personality and he is experienced in this profession. So do not even think to fool him.

Few of the candidates give importance to outer personality only. They go for very nice wearing ( Branded apparels , nice shoes etc.. ) which is not that much important , what  important is your inner personality. { My friend got recommended in  t shirt, jeans and sport shoes from 14 SSC  Allahabad. It was his hard luck that on the reporting day only his interview got scheduled and took by the board's president}.

Tips for Interview -

•  Wear any decent clothes. Nice light color shirt and dark trouser. you guys know it very well so i am not that much concerned.
• Confidence is directly proportional to your knowledge and your ability to accomplish difficult task. Gain knowledge. Read newspaper, discuss various social - political - economical- national - international issues with your  friends. It will really help you to broaden your perspective. IO generally want to know you view on various social issues, So show them you have a healthy , intellectual view based on your studies. {He asked my views for curbing the menace of corruption , Delhi gang rape , China's intrusion etc.} 
• You need to analyse your self, discuss your personality with your near ones who know you very well. Ask them to tell you your negative and positive points.IO's generally ask this type of question like tell me 2 positive points of your father/ your friend etc. They actually want to know what is positive in your view. What quality in human being you generally appreciate like some says my father is very diligent / industrious / hard working this traits are good and they show that you are the person who encourages and appreciate hard work.                                                                                                                                                  If you say that you like your friend because he supports you than this thing shows that  you like him because of his supportive quality. It means if any one who does not agree with your view is not appreciated.
• Appreciate human qualities and your personality should complement your views.
• Same thing goes for negative traits. If you say that you don't like someone because of very idiotic reasons like if someone smokes or if someone abuse than these are not considered. U really need a very strong reason for disliking any human being personality because you are going to lead a group of men and may be they smoke or possess such personality traits which you do not like. so think twice before saying any thing.
• Every IO go for Rapid question round. They will ask 15 to 20 questions in continuation and tell you to answer one by one from starting. This process is only done to check whether you get nervous or not and your level of concentration. If you really listen them carefully than in rapid fire they only ask " Tell me about your self" but in a little different manner. So do not get nervous.
• Hobbies -  again one very tricky section of  questioning. Do not ever lie in this questions. Tell them very seriously what you like to do in your free time. It can be reading, singing, cooking or any thing . My hobby is to train dogs. ( not any dog , only my dog..:) ).You must be having any hobby . I m sure, it can be bike riding, photography etc. When you start thinking that may be your hobby can make your selection in stake than you start telling lie and start asking everyone that what should i reply to IO when he ask for hobby. One more thing if you say my hobby is watching saas bahu serial and i love to do gossip than it won't work. It shows in your free time you waste your time. It's not productive, it's not help full to you , you are not learning any new thing. so these kind of hobby should be avoided immediately.
• IO will ask various type of question regarding your hobby to know only thing which is, "your level of interest". Hobby is something which you really like to do. You will spare time from your busy schedule for your hobby . So he will check your level of interest by asking questions. So do not afraid guys. IO is only asking question which you really like to do. So enjoy the conversation. If you will lie than this conversation will be the most difficult part of your interview.  
• Reading - What do you read ? Plzzzzzzzzzzz for god sake do not reply Chetan Bhagat's novel or any such kind of novel. Read those magazines/novels/newspapers which make you learn something. Books on leadership skills, communication skills, Management, team leadership are very good options.  Novels like Alchemist are also good. Editorial and OP-ed of news papers are always welcomed .
• If you are not good in studies or you are an average student than accept it with open heart and high head. Their is nothing wrong in it. IO will ask the reason. Tell him the genuine reason. you can say that lack of seriousness towards studies was one of the reason. Or you have more interest in practical learning. Friends Marks are not the true benchmark for judging any persons caliber always remember.
