AFCAT : Role and Responsibility of an Engineer in IAF

Dear friends,

Recently i had a conversation with a retired Wing Commander. Who served IAF as Aeronautical Engineer in Electronics Branch AE(L). During our conversation i asked about job profile of an engineer and exactly what  role he performs in IAF and he mailed me today. I am just pasting what he replied .

Dear Utkarsh ,

Well, job as an AE (L) would be expected to lead multi discipline technical teams which provide technicalsupport to either of the following

aircraft operations, Air Traffic Services, Operational Communication Centres, technical training, quality assurance,Project Management, supply chain management.

As an Officer, you would be responsible for the performance management, training, appraisal, welfare, grievance handling and morale of your subordinates.

In the IAF where you are working in a mission critical environment, timely completion and quality of work are of utmost importance. Adherence to laid down procedures and standards is also given a lot of importance.

It is a challenging and interesting life. I am sure you will enjoy it. Contact me incase of any querry.

All the best.
