Does question on hobby troubles U?

What to say or write in hobby?????????????????????

I know most of the aspirants face this problem in SSB or any other interview. Why they ask this question yaar? I mean what they have to do with my hobby? 

The truth is this question is a very very important and useful weapon to understand one's mentality and it reveals hidden features of your personality. Lets see how? 

What is the meaning of hobby?  

A  Hobby is any thing which we like to do whenever we get free time. It can be anything and varies from person to person. Some time we specially plan our daily schedule in such a way that we can spare some time for our hobby. It provides you internal happiness. No one force you to do that hobby. For example . If you are working than you have to go to the office whether you like it or not. If you are student in school or college than you have to study whether you like it or not, but that is not the case with hobby. One's hobby is developed and carried forward by one's only. Always remember it can be anything.

Where the problem arises? 

If you start thinking that my hobby is not a very renowned and famous hobby. We all play cricket , football but we never write this as a hobby in SSB because we get afraid by the questions that can be raised by IO and if we are writing it than we start memorizing various facts regarding that particular sports to show IO your level of interest for example for CRICKET-  what is the length of a BAT? What is the measurement of a PITCH? Height of stumps etc etc...But do you really think this procedure will give you some help. What if the IO asks which you do not know.. If you will say that sorry sir i do not know the answer than does it create problem for you to get recommended..

What any one's hobby tell us about that person?

• Level of Interest - I have xyz hobby. No one force me to opt for that. That is my hobby because i love to do that. So if IO ask few basic question regarding your hobby and if you are not able to reply, than it shows your weak level of interest. Remember it's your hobby not IO's hobby . He can ask only basic questions.  Example 

Me - Sir my hobby is  reading?

IO - what you read?

( There are several novels , magazines,  books in the market. Spiritual, Adventurous, Inspirational, Sakhi saheli, Sports magzines, Motor-bike magzines, Electronic gazets, Current affairs etc etc etc.....If you say sir i read sakhi- saheli than you can imagine what IO is going to perceive about you. If you say i read spiritual magzines than also it won't work. If you say i read  magazines related to sports , motor bikes , than you should know the basics of such subject and we can not memorize it. Our confidence level will show that whether we lying or telling truth. 

If i ask you to tell me the story of Bhaag Milkha Bhaag than you can narrate it with full interest and confidence because you know it. This level of interest and confidence clearly shows us that whether a person is lying or not.

During my interview my IO asked - Utkarsh do you read some informative things or you are also a chetan bhagat's fan? )

Me- sir i read current affairs magazines?

IO- Tell me something about world badminton championship or who won ashes series or what is going in syria? or throw some light on present economic conditions or recent inducted air crafts or naval ships etc etc.

( This section is very very very much useful for aspirants. They can show their knowledge and level of interest in diversified fields and that is expected because you are going to be class1 , gazetted officer. You will be a highly decorated officer, you will be living full royal life and all above you will be the most important and valuable assets of our nation) 

Do not lie . Tell him the truth. If you play computer games than also its good because this is your age to play but than you should also supplement you perspective with some knowledgeable background. ( isiliye kehta hun ..read newspaper's)

Most of mail i received , my friends say i spent most of the time in social networking sites, or in some other completely useless things. They are not considered as hobby even it shows you got some free time and you wasted all your time in social networking. You do not have value for time. negative impact.

My only point is - Develop a hobby which will complement the chances of getting recommended like reading . If you say my hobby is cooking, playing games, bike riding, computer games than also its good but in addition you should also give equal importance to reading.

One more point i want to tell you that you do not require a state / national level certificate to show your interest in any sports or games. You love to play , know the basics of the game , even if you do know than also reply with full confidence , " sir at present i do not know but will surely look in to it " and if say this than search that answer because in conference IO can repeat that question again.

 READING -   Why i keep on emphasizing on reading habit because once you get commissioned than you will play various role. Some time they will send you to any rescue operations ( like uttrakhand  disaster ) where you have to think with humanism. Some time they will send you on any air craft deals where you have to think technically and economically. Some time you will be posted on various sensitive issue than your geographical and historical knowledge for that place will help you. Some time you will be placed at president office than your political knowledge will help you. You have to remember that you are going to command a group of troops and they on your single order easily and happily devote their life. It's only your responsibilty to take care of them and for that you NEED A BROADER PERSPECTIVE and this only come when you start reading on various topics. You are not applying for a Job but for a service , a very responsible service and your selectors know their responsibility very well so you also understand this and start reading.

If you have noticed that most of IO's ask for your view on particular issue to only know your level of thinking. Always read editorial section and watch various  news discussion on national / international importance.

• There can be more than 1 hobby. My hobbies are Cooking, Reading and Dog Training. Whatever is your hooby do not hesitate. Tell the truth.
