Must Read : Medical's after SSB

On 19th of January 2013 , When our DSO Wg. Cdr. Arun Mishra announced the names of recommended candidates than we all went to a room for further lengthy documentation. During the documentation process one IAF personnel gave us one letter in which our medical dates was mentioned. In totality we 6 got recommended. 4 of them got same reporting date and 2 got different reporting date i.e. 28th of january.

On 28th of January in the morning i reported at AFCME , Subroto Park , Delhi with my very good friend Saif Zaidi. In the waiting room we met with few more recommended candidates from Varanasi and NDA recommended baccha's they were really sweet. One Airmen was also with us. Than again 1 hour of documentation. After that we all went inside a hall in first floor. We started watching TV and started anticipating about what is going to happen. In the AFCME you will see all officer'f from IAF , Indian Navy , Indian Army. There were 5 or 6 young officers from Army ( Lieutenant / Captain). They also came for medical check up. They got selected from Army Aviation ( choppers , helicopters and all that ). I must admit one thing , i have equal respect for all the three wings of Indian Armed Forces but the officer's from Army were killing each and everyone of us. They were looking sooooooo good, very handsome , there dark uniform, stars were shining on their shoulders. Recommended girls were staring on them , in fact we all were looking champoos in front of them.

DAY -1
In between all this , One IAF personnel came and called us for Height/ Weight/Chest measurement. There was big machine generally in which Food grain supplier's weigh their commodities. I stood on it . That machine measured 64 kg but the officers note 62 kg because we all were in warmers and other clothes so he deducted 2 kg's for that. Than height was measured and than chest.

Accommodation and food was far much better in AFSB in AFCME it was not that good.

AFCME is a defense hospitals so most of the doctors were busy in check- up of other officers and  their family. You should wait in the waiting hall. They will call you if the doctor get's free.

DAY -2

In the morning they conducted blood and urine test. After your test if they give you something to drink like glucon-d it means there is a mis match in your height/weight ratio but that is not a issue. No one gets medically UNFIT for this reason. If you are over / under weight with a high margin than only they will give you TR and ask you to come after 40 days with expected weight.
After that we went for surgical check up. In this You will be called in a room one by one. Generally there will be only one officer. He will ask you to get undressed. He will do few check ups like knock-knees, flat foot, piles and cubitus valgus. Then he will check your blood pressure. If any doubt occurs then he will do some additional check ups . He suspected that few of us are having problem of cubitus valgus so we went for an additional X-ray of our elbow and wrist. One was having high B.P. so doctor attached some B.P. reading machine with his body for 24hrs. One UES Entry guy was having Knock Knees.

X- Ray - We all went for X-ray of our chest.

ENT check up-
Ear , Nose and Throat check - up. Doctor told me that i am having a little problem of DNS but because i had applied for technical branch he declared me FIT. For flying candidates they never compromise with any thing.

Audio-metric Test -
We again went to a room . Sound proof room. In that room you can even listen your heart beats.You have to wear one head phone and they give you a  swtich button. Different frequencies of sound will be played and when you hear the sound press the button. Sound will be like koi mil gaya movie's sound which hrithik pressed to meet jadoo but the intensity of the sound will be very low. You really have to concentrate. { I met a guy Anil . He was 11 times recommended from the different boards but always failed audio-metric test and this time also he was declared UNFIT for this test only)

ECG Test - In this test your heart functioning is checked. {One thing i want to mention if you are having too much hairs on your chest ( Anil kapoor's style) than plz shave them before going for ECG , otherwise you have to search for a barber near by AFCME , Take medical procedure very seriously. do not ever think that if you are recommended than your way is clear. What ever they will told you to do just follow there command as u followed in AFSB's}

Day 3

Sonography test - They will check your stomach .

Eye Test - If you are applying for technical than upto - 3.5 it's allowed but if you are for flying than again 6/6 , eagle's eye is must. They will also check your eye lenses, how healthy is your retina and colorblindness.

Dental check - up - If you are having any major problem than it's a issue. Otherwise not a problem. If you smoke than go for scaling first before going to medicals and if you are having cavity problem than get it filled.

Day 4

Conference round- 

You will go inside a officer's chamber. Generally the commanding officer will took your conference. It's not like SSB conference where 15 - 20 officers will showed up. Only one officer will be there. He will tell you whether you are medically FIT or UNFIT.. If you are UNFIT than not to worry fill the review form and they will again check you for that particular problem and declare you FIT. For Flying the medical is quiet tough.

For females they almost follows the same procedure. Their surgical testing is little different which i do not know.

If they found any problem in you than they will re-examine you. Most of us were declared medically FIT and those who were UNFIT applied in review board and they also got clearance.

For flying they check your sitting length. leg length and n number of x- rays.

In medical testing you can not do anything. They will test you and if you found FIT than it's good and if u r UNFIT than it's just your bad luck.
