Score 200+ in AFCAT..

Dear Friends ,

We are very much aware of the selection procedure . Your selection in to Indian Armed Services completely depends upon 2 factors -

  • Hard Work and Study
  • Luck Factor

1st Stage - Written Exam - Only Hard work and Study will lead you to success.

2nd stage - SSB - After clearing 1 st stage the most important stage is SSB which requires Hard Work and Luck.

3rd Stage - Medicals - Completely Luck Factor because you can not do anything if you are medically Unfit except minor issues.

4th Stage - Merit List - Accumulation of your performance in the above stages.

Friend's you want to become an officer's of the  Indian Armed Forces and SSB is just a stage you have to clear so that you can materialize you dream. Only clearing SSB and Medical only will not lead you to Academy until your name comes in the merit list .

AFCAT is a exam of 300 marks. According to one deep analysis, the cut off for the exam is generally stays in between 142 - 148. In which 30% scores between 150 - 170 , 60% (the majority) scores between 171-190 , 7% scores between 190-210 and only 3% scores between 210 above. During my medicals i met a guy who scored 275 and got recommended for flying.
This analysis is of those candidates who got recommended and declared medically FIT. This is a generalized anticipation.

If you are applying for January course than it's not a big issue because most of candidates made in merit list, the reason is their is no UES entry for January Course , But for July Course the number of candidates who got merit out is very high. Specially in technical field AE(L) and AE(M) , GDOC( Admin.).

So if you want to be in the safer side than score 200+ under any circumstances. Specially for tech. branches because they easily score 170+ so the competition level is very very high. Your SSB marks also plays very important role but you can not rely on that . All the candidates who are recommended have performed well in SSB that is the reason they got recommended. Now actually you do not know how much Your Interviewing Officer has given you marks and that really plays a very major role in your selection.

{ My one friend got merit out from AFCAT 02/2011, He had applied for AE(L). He again applied for AFCAT 02/2012 , got 175 marks and got recommended from the very same board again , Varanasi . During his Interview IO asked " WHAT WENT WRONG LAST TIME " , He replied " SIR I GOT MERIT OUT " . Io said " I WILL MAKE SURE THIS WON'T HAPPEN AGAIN". Although he scored very average marks but got permanent commission in AE(L). Right now he is in IAA, Dundigal. }

All those who made in permanent commission all scored above 200 in written except few exceptions i am sure those few exceptions must have performed very very well in their SSB's specially in Interview.
One with 152 marks got PC . I am amazed.

So in nut shell You have to score 200+ if you want to get in to academy ( exceptions are always their).

Now how to score 200+ in AFCAT papers is very important issue.  What i have seen most of the aspirants are comfortable with Quant. , Reasoning and English section but in General Awareness they did not perform up to the expectations.

In my next Article i will provide you with such arms and ammunition that you will perform definitely more than 200 +.

  1. Thnks for dis lovely information. Actually my query is what percentage of AFCAT score is taken into consideration to prepare the final merit list? And u have not mentioned anything about flying branch. can u please throw some light on it as well..!!

  2. Harneet it completely depend upon the scores of candidates who got recommended from various boards. If u have cleared the cut off which generally belong in between 140-148 than they will call you for SSB. Your SSB recommendation has nothing to do with your AFCAT written marks. They generally even do not ask anything related your AFCAT marks, If you score more than 210 than your chances are brighter. One champ scored 149 and he is in merit list and on the other hand one scored 198 but he is merit out, Your SSB + Written are taken into consideration for preparing merit list.
In flying they generally select all the candidates because we already lack pilots but in flying also few unlucky ones gets merit out. My sincere advice for you is to perform very well in written and Interview.

  3. bro, here we dont have an AFCAT coaching center in my area, instead I have joined a center which provides Bank PO coaching for preparing AFCAT. A lot of people got placed in several Banks from this institution. And my classes has not been started yet. Is it enough or not???

    1. Harikishan first of all you do not require to join any coaching institute for AFCAT. Bank PO exams are based on time management . number of questions are more , they are very lengthy and quiet tough as compare to AFCAT pattern. Just practice. i already mentioned few tips. so go through it.

    2. PO exam is comparatively tougher than AFCAT ryt. So if I practice the toughest I can easily score high in AFCAT no?

    3. Hari always prepare for the exam keeping in view the pattern and requirement of that exam. There are several exams conducted in this country which are based on aptitude but it doesn't mean that everyone start preparing for CAT level. In bank PO all the sections contribute equally that is 25% GS , Quant , Reasoning and English but in AFCAT that ratio is changed. You have to give more time in reasoning. If you think that PO coaching is helpful to you than just go for it. You will surely get good marks. Practice hard. Good Luck.

    4. Thanks bro. I have read your New post regarding the sections. It is really an eye opener. I am much weak in synonyms and antonyms. So I think concentrating on numerical ability & reasoning is good for me and some General Awareness aswell.

    5. Everyone is not good in every section. Do your best in which you are comfortable. High Score is the only goal remember.

  4. Sir,
I have a little knock knees, the problem is not worse but little.
Do you know the exact procedure how they check you knock knee problem, i heard that having slight knock knee would not be a problem. I read in a site that they make you stand in attention position i.e in v shaped legs with 3-4 inches gap between your heels(not toes), and they see whether your knees are touching or not, if i do this my knees don't touch each other, but if i stand in normal attention i.e with no gap between heels my knees touch a little, i heard that people really suffering from knock knees would not be able to stand in this way, but i am very comfortable and i can stand without any difficulty. So, this is my problem do i really have knock knees or is it a slight defect?
please reply this I am getting much upset after i found this fault in me and am not able to concentrate on my preparation..

  5. Sir, could you please direct me to the best coaching (according to you) for the AFCAT Written exam? Most importantly what I want to know is that, is coaching really required for it? I mean all these coaching centers say that if one wants to crack this exam he/she needs to join this and that coaching. Is it true? Secondly, I've been doing self-study till now and the exam is, perhaps, on 23rd Feb. So, if a coach is really that important I can't waste more of my time doing it all by myself. Sir, only you can help me out now! Please tell me what to do at this very moment and pull me out of this confusion. Thank you.
