Full Fledged IAF Station in Thanjavur 

Defence Minister Mr. Antony has inaugurated a full fledged air station in Thanjavur,  THE FIRST  FIGHTER PLANE BASE of the Indian Air Force in the southern peninsula. The establishment of a premier fighter bas at Thanjavur assumes importance in the current geopolitical scenario and in view of the threat perception in the oceanic region around the peninsula.
                                            The Indian Air Force will base a squadron of SUKHOI Su -30 super-manoeuvrable fighter aircraft here, making it the first fighter squadron in Tamil Nadu. ACM Mr. Browne , Chief of Air Staff , said a full Sukhoi - 30 squadron would be established in Thanjavur by 2017.


Navy Gets First Fighter Squadron in 30 years 

The navy has commissioned its first fighter squadron in 30years with the 303 " BLACK PANTHERS" squadron getting fromal status but will have to wait till the end of this year for the INS Vikramaditya aircraft carrier to arrive from Russia to start sea-borne operations. The new Indian Navy Squadron , commisoned operates the MIG-29K fighters that were inducted into services in 2010 and have going through trials and training over the past three years before the arrival of the carrier.
